Set-up: We Are All In This Together

Activity sheets:
Characteristics of Adult Insects

Teacher Preparation:

  • Students and teacher will gather miscellaneous rearing containers for various insects. Refer to Activity 2 and rearing sheets for details if you are using live insects. If you choose to use preserved specimens, design Activity 4 to be a research activity at the library.
  • Set up terraria or containers for the arthropods several days before class activities begin. Identify and prepare a place in the classroom for the insects to live. Avoid areas with direct sun, air vents or cold drafts. Care for the animals can be given to students if you wish.
  • Prepare juice and cups for Closure Activity.
  • Prepare copies of Characteristics of Adult Insects for Activity 4.
  • Two charts are planned for this lesson (see Introduction and Activity 4). Prepare bulletin board space or other wall space for displaying charts throughout the lesson.
  • This lesson discusses race, culture and religion. Take care that all students are equally represented and acknowledged for their unique contribution.
  • Gather remaining materials and books (see Bibliography).
