Extensions Have a variety of books available on grasshoppers and/or crickets for the students just for fun. Choose a different insect (e.g., cricket, jumping spider) and do the same comparison activities. Explore what muscles move limbs different ways demonstrating with body movements. Words with Special Meanings (for understanding only, not to be tested) Arthropod (phylum: Arthropods): a group of animals that have exoskeletons, jointed legs, and segmented bodies. They include such animals as insects, spiders, ticks, centipedes, millipedes, crayfish, lobsters, mites, and scorpions. Hypothesis (hypotheses, plural): a tentative explanation for a question that can be tested using experimentation. Observe: to look at and pay special attention to what something does, what it looks like, and how it changes. Physical abilities: what the body is structurally capable of doing.
