Teacher Preparation:
- Make the experiment containers (after completing Activity 1). See illustration and directions.
- One class graph is planned for this lesson (Activity 2). Two discussions are recorded on butcher paper (Introduction and Activity 3). Prepare bulletin board space or other wall space for displaying chart throughout the lesson.
- Copy and cut mealworm pictures for Activity 2.
- Gather remaining materials and books (see Bibliography).
Materials:
- Mealworms
- Bran flakes
- Meal worm containers: clear and black film cans, black paper, tape (check your local film developing store for free cans).
- Individual student journals
- Butcher paper
- Scissors
- Magnifiers (optional)
- Russell Hoban, Bread and Jam for Frances; Yoshi, The Butterfly Hunt.
- Any supporting fiction and non-fiction literature that may not be suggested in the bibliography.
