Additions: Getting to Know You


Extensions

  • Have the students role play helping a friend when someone has been mean or does not like them
  • Using cookie dough, make cookie mealworms.
  • Draw a circle on a piece of paper. Mark the center. Mark mealworms with small dots of different colors (magic marker, poster paint or liquid paper). Release the mealworms in the center and cheer them on.
  • Sing the Mealworm song to the tune of "Pop Goes the Weasel."

Words with Special Meanings

(for understanding only, not to be tested)
  1. Arthropod: animals that have jointed legs and a skeleton on the outside of their bodies (exoskeleton).
  2. Friend: A person (or thing) whom one knows well, likes, and trusts.
  3. Hypothesis (hypotheses, plural): a tentative explanation for a question that can be tested using experimentation.
  4. Larva (plural, larvae): the immature stage of an insect that goes through metamorphosis. A baby insect (egg, larva, pupa).
  5. Observe: to look at and pay special attention to what something does, what it looks like, and how it changes.
  6. Predict: to guess what you believe will happen.
