Amateur Entomology Societies
Many amateur entomologists have organized societies around the country. Some groups are formal with newsletters, involvement of professional entomologists, associated with a museum and with a large active memberships. Other groups gather in member's living rooms for discussions about their weekend experiences collecting insects. Many groups focus on butterflies, moths and beetles. These groups are filled with people with valuable knowledge and expertise. Some members may be willing to share parts of their collection and talk with your class. The local university, extension office or library may have information about locating a group in your area. The following states have large organizations: British Columbia, California (Lorquin Society), Conneticut, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Saskatechewan, Washington.

Insect Zoos and Exhibits
Live insects are becoming integral aspects of many zoos and museums. Call your local natural history museum and zoo to find out about their collections of preserved insects and exhibits of live insects.
