Research in Neurobiology -Biosensors, biomimetics, and biobots!
Using their understanding of the biochemical, neurological, and mechanical functions of Manduca, scientists are working on an amazing array of new devices, many with eventual biomedical uses:
- Biobots - organisms equipped with devices to control their behavior and interact with the environment.
- Biosensors - devices that combine biological tissues with synthetic devices to perform sensory tasks, such as artificial "super noses".
- Biomimetics - artificial devices that mimic the neurology and mechanics of organisms, such as self-guided, odor-following robots.
