Hopi Corn: The Mother of Life
This video was created by Henry Hagedorn, of the Entomology Department of the University of Arizona, and Emory and Marlene Sekaquaptewa of the Hopi Nation. Emory is an emritus member of the Bureau of Applied Research in Anthropology at the University of Arizona. Emory is working to establish Hopi as a written language and has directed the creation of a dictionary for the language.
The video describes how corn is raised by the Hopi on the Third Mesa in northern Arizona. It is called dry land farming since the farmers depend entirely on rain to maintain their crops. The video also emphasizes the importance of corn to the cultural and ceremonial life of the Hopi.
